2000 watches were made for this purpose, the first significant production of a model of wristwatch in history. GP produced the first ever mass produced wristwatch in 1880 which was used by German naval officers. The legendary Manufacture has over 80 patents and many milestones. GP has more than just a long timeline to its name, however. The two houses were merged in 1906, forming the modern GP that we know and love. After he was wed to Marie Perregaux the name was changed to Girard-Perregaux in 1856. Later, in 1852, watchmaker Constant Girard founded his own company. The beginnings of GP go back to all the way to 1791 when Jean-Francois Bautte founded his watchmaking company making the entirety of the watch in house in Geneva.
